If you're an avid cinema goer, you probably have seen Pete Jackson's latest installment - Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey.
So, what do you think of it?
Do hold on to your thought, since I can't hear you, and read what I want to say about this movie first.
Then, record your comment in the box, right below this post.
We can change note there...
The movie was released on December 13th, here in Malaya :-)
I'm not a huge fan of LOTR, but I follow all of them. I keep the DVD collection, with the uncut version, of course.
But it was called 'the extended version' on the box cover...
If I can rate Hobbit, I'll give it a good 3 stars out of 5. It does entertain me to a certain extent, and there are things that I'd like to see improving.
Perhaps, in the following series...
1) It reminds me of LOTR. Well, I like LOTR a lot, and I see some familiar faces in Hobbit. It's a pleasure to see them around, like Gendalf, Galadriel, and Saruman.
And The Shire, of course. Makes me feel at home...
2) Short appearance of Frodo. I don't like him. Luckily, he only appears for a few seconds...
3) Smeagol a.k.a Gollum is still imperative to the whole story line. He's still 'the precious'...
4) Bilbo is not so serious at his young age. Likeable character...
5) The eagles are still doing the rescue mission...
6) I get to see the third wizard - the Brown (forgot his first name), and I think he's cool, speeding with his rabbits...
7) I think I know how the Uruk Hai predeccesor looks like. Pretty pale, if you asked me...
1) They say that LOTR is much, much better (duh!)...
2) The storyline is too slow. It picks up after the first hour...
3) There's no Legolas ... Well, I made that one up ;-)
I give Hobbit the Unexpected Journey a rating of 3 because I feel like watching how LOTR unfold right before me. It's a revisit to the past, and it enhance my understanding to the whole deal of what JRR Tolkien wanted to convey.
But I also agree that the action pace, it could be speed up just a little bit. Maybe the slow part is necessary.
I don't know ...
What I'd like to see for the next adventure, something I expected, is how the past relate to the future, without being too much romancing and slow build-up.
It's interesting to see if the culprit is really who everyone thought it is (yup, the culprit is not human), or maybe Pete will twist the plot until everything becomes screwed up!
Interesting prediction ...
